Dear Friends,
Recently you all might have seen SAP added a new portfolio - something called SAP solutions for Sustainability. Infact this "Sustainability" term has lot more deeper meaning than mere "Environmental Sustainability Concept". SAP Sustainability solutions aim at delivering solutions so that Business Processes can be run with optimum resources so that they can achieve sustainable operations and reduce expenditure and out perform competitors. Whether Energy, Gas,Material, Water or whatever maybe how best the companies can utilize and track their Fuels, Energy, Electricity, GHG and Air Emissions so that their business processes are sustainable in nature which in turn complies to Regulatory Sustainability concept. These Sustainability are different for each sector for example sustainability solutions for Oil and Natural Gas can be different from Iron & Steel, so dont get surprised if in future SAP comes out with new portfolio solutions calling - SAP Sustainability Solutions for Oil and Gas, SAP Sustainability Solutions for Metallurgical Industries and SAP Sustainability Solutions for Mining or say Chemical Industry. Well there are quite a number of hits to make with one new concept !!!

SEEING GREENER PASTURES IN GREEHOUSE GAS MANAGEMENT !!!
Business opportunity, corporate brand and Competitive advantage are the top three drivers while compliance and risk mitigation are considered significantly less important. However, Its not surprise when I heard Chris Perceval from WRI commenting in SAP Sustainability Video, that “ Current economic conditions is an opportunity for companies to reshape themselves with lot more innovation for sustainability for outperforming their competitors”, taking right steps now will save money in the long run!. Companies are infact collecting the data for competitive advantage and for maintaining market reputation. However A number of hallmark regulations are emerging right now, with some states, like California, Maine, and New Jersey, regulating carbon dioxide emissions ahead of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Not only regulations are driviing Greenhouse gas management, even companies are also feeling the pressure on financial side, shareholders, insurance firms, lenders and rating companies increasingly wants to see emission reduction and accountability via reports. Walmart announcement asking everyone of its suppliers to calculate and disclose the full environmental costs of manufacturing their costs is a typical example of this trend. If companies ignore these market changes they are in danger of being left behind.
Things are moving at an incredible pace. A key trend and source of confusion – involves registeries and reporting. In the US, the Chicago Climate Exchange and California Climate Registry have led to a proliferation of discussions. In coming years there may be a national system that supports emission accounting and a single standard reporting. CDM is about monitoring this rapidly evolving process very closely.
However, the question remains what is the optimum software solution that can takeup this challenge of tracking Corporate GHG emissions Inventory. . The near term software solutions should aim at helping companies assess their risk, inventory emissions, develop corporate strategies, engineer greenhouse gas and energy management measures, and identify emissions offset opportunities.
The companies should aims at 1) Calculate emissions from sources that company owns or controls 2) Emissions associated with the generation of electricity, steam, or heat purchased or consumed and 3) Emissions from Waste disposal, business travel and employee computing. From a software point of view the solution should suppor companies to i) Establish Emission Inventory Capability ii) Assess Internal options for Emission Reduction iii) Assess extenral options iv) Purchase options and v) Develop some long term Enterprise Sustainability strategy and support in Trading platform. .
Thanks
Jak

SAP EH&S vs SAP EHS MANAGEMENT !!!!
Dear Friends !
It sounds interesting right! SAP EH&S and SAP EHS MANAGEMENT. Yes in coming months SAP is going to take SAP EH&S related products and comeout with a more stremlined business solutions. These business solutions are streamlined for Product Compliance, Environmental Compliance and Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene and Safety. Definately this move will generate lot more SAP EHS implementations throughout the world. As currently the segmented solutions distributed across different sub modules is confusing to the client. When they are briefed that their intended Product Compliance solution is distributed across three different sub modules for example - Dangerous Goods management, Product safety and Hazardous Substance Management.
Thanks

SAP REACh Compliance 1.1
Dear Friends,
Now a days I am being asked to write something about SAP solution REACh Compliance 1.1 since it seems there are couple of opportunities opened up for this module of SAP EH&S. Recently in EU a new legislation has come into force which is termed as REACh - stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and (Restriction) of Chemicals. This new legislation said to replace existing 40 legislation's - to be precise it actually consolidates those 40 legislation in to a more powerful regulation. This is a quantity based regulation which requires a Legal entity to register with authorities how much chemicals (those from the list of hazardous chemicals) it proposes to Import, Export, Consume or produce in a calender year. SAP has come out with a software called Substance Volume Tracking which is used for quantity and volume monitoring of Substances in Logistic processes. Recently it has come up with a new software called REACh Compliance 1.1 (SP02).
Besides REACh Compliance 1.1, Global Label Management, Substance Volume Tracking, Product Safety, Bar Code and Labeling, Dangerous Goods Management, Supply chain Communication are the other required components for effective management of REACh regulation. REACh Compliance 1.1 is used for management of REACh Process within the legal entity. Numerous processes i.e. Material Management, Supply Chain Collaboration, Substance and Use Management and Legal Process Management are the different components of the software. This modules interacts with Existing EH&S, MM, SD, Business Partners, Email (SCOT), Business Objects for managing the process. This is a portal based application for management of REACh Process.
